All the tea from my first TEDx event

I’ve watched TED talks for so long. My favourite being “Looks aren’t everything. Believe me, I’m a model” by Cameron Russell. This particular talk birthed my relationship with TED.

Personally, my TEDx experience started the minute I applied to be a volunteer for TEDxNzastreet. The whole process was the full package.

This event took place in Enugu, Nigeria. The theme: Divergent thinking.

Application

TEDx is a community I absolutely adore for all that it represents.I was super excited when I saw the call for volunteers flyer. I quickly applied.

Why I volunteered

I became a volunteer because I’m deeply captivated by learning and spreading ideas, which is what TED aims at.

I was also in dire need to meet different people who were passionate with TED as I am.

Furthermore, I wanted to put to test my ability to work in a team with new people.

The day before the event

Prior to this day, we had several sessions where we were briefed on our tasks. I remember the atmosphere of the evening before the event. So much still needed to be done. All hands were on deck thankfully.

What I missed out on

I’d have loved to listen to all the speakers. I only got snippets of the talks, which was a little bit disheartening.

What I gained

I met extraordinary people. The volunteers, speakers, organizers put in so much time and effort in making this event a worthwhile experience.

And ofcourse, I learnt how to work under pressure.

At the end of the day, I was overwhelmed, exhausted but most importantly, so fulfilled. It was a deeply rewarding experience. I remember still being so hyped weeks later.

This was the first edition of TEDxNzastreet and I’m looking forward to another one.

Have you attended a TEDx event before? How was it?

Lastly, Happy New year!!

Nutritious Food Fair + Layered Dress

Yes, I just said food. You heard me right . I attended the Nutritious Food Fair which held in Enugu. A 3-day programme which is aimed at scaling up nutritious food everywhere. I didn’t exactly have all the time in the world but I was able to go on day 1.DSC05451 (2).jpg

There was lots of pop up stalls. The venue was decently crowded and I made a lot of Northern friends. Let me also state that i didnt sleep the previous night cause i was working. I was so exhausted by the time i got to the venue, so believe me when i say the food was a sight for sour eyes. I honestly didn’t know that Nigerians had uped their game. There were so many made-in-nigeria foodstuff. Why do we still import most of our foodstuff when there are people in the country producing healthy, organic and 100% natural food?DSC05450 (2).jpg

With that being said, day 2, which is today, is the more technical day. They’d be showcasing various ways food is and could be processed and preserved. The raw materials are also being sold.

We should pay more attention to what we put into our bodies. Eat healthy.Healthy eating is healthy living. If you’re interested in owning an organic factory or a farm, you still have tomorrow to go and mingle and get some contacts. Hope you have fun.

What I wore:

I think I didn’t get the memo though. I’ve had this dress for over a year and this is probably the second time I’ve worn it. I was seriously praying in my heart that the wind would blow alot more so you could see the beauty of the dress. And yes it blew but anytime I wanted to take a picture, it stopped. 3 Exclusive things I learnt at the National Youth Summit

DSC05203 (2).JPG#National youth summit is a platform that promotes youth participation in leadership and National development. It was hosted by the Golden Heart Foundation. This was the second time i was hearing about the event and decided to know what all the hype was about.

I got my ticket online. It was a very smooth process. It was a 3-day programme but i missed the first day.*sigh*I’m very keen when it comes to time but i remember not checking the time till the programme was over. I was so engrossed. There was so much knowledge flowing everywhere .Honestly, it was a very interesting and enlightening conference plus i saw long lost friends. I don’t regret any bit of it. I learnt a truck-load of things but these three stuck like glue. I hope it helps someone.

1. 3CV: Character, Competence, Chemistry and Vision by GORI DANIEL

Vision usually comes first. What do you want to do? Where do you see yourself in a couple of years? Answer that. VISUALIZE. Vision is what allows you to be disciplined. Next comes Character. You have to be honest, diligent and trustworthy. Your character tells a lot about you at first look. Be that person that you would like to work with. Let your character do the talking. Then, Competence. You should be able to demonstrate the skills required for execution. Gain more knowledge(you can never have enough), practice and develop your skills. Lastly, Chemistry. You should be passionate about whatever it is that you want to do.DSC05185 (2).jpg

2. Take Responsibility by LAWRENCE ONOCHIE

How frequently do you claim that others have determined what you are today? Accepting responsibility means you are solely in charge of the choices you make in your life. Not feeling sorry for the ‘bad luck’ you have been handed but taking hold of your life and giving it direction and reason. Developing strategic plans for your life and taking relevant and consistent action towards actualizing your goals.

3.Manage your greed by Ex Gov. PETER OBI

The reason why our country isn’t growing is because everyone wants to attain only individual wealth. Individual wealth impoverishes everyone but public wealth enriches everyone. Manage that greed and help people around you. When people grow through you, you grow much more(like enlightened selfishness, who remembers?). I talked about in my previous post.

The aim shouldn’t be success only. Why settle for success, when you can be significant? Don’t settle!!

We should try to live by these principles. I’m trying to. Do your own part.
